Elizabeth Keckley,  born February 1818, died May 1907 She was a former slave who became a successful seamstress,
civil activist, and author in Washington, DC.


On February 29, an actress associated with Women in History will perform a monologue on Elizabeth Keckley,
featuring an authentic time period costume. Following the monologue will be a question and answer session with
the audience. Women in History is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the education of all people through the

dramatic recreation of lives of notable women in U.S. history.
