British a cappella octet VOCES8 will open Tuesday Musical’s 2021-22 Akron Concert Series on Tuesday, October 19, 7:30 p.m., at EJ Thomas Performing Arts Hall., 198 Hill St., Akron.
Their Choral Dances program will span Bach and Rachmaninov to Nat ‘King’ Cole and Van Morrison.

In the two days leading up to the concert, VOCES8 will work with students and teachers during residencies at Coventry High School and The University of Akron (UA). The UA School of Music’s Kulas Concert Series is supporting the latter residency.
Founded in 2003 by brothers Paul and Barnaby Smith, VOCES8 has been heralded as “the Rolls-Royce of British a cappella ensembles” by British arts journalism website The Arts Desk. Barnaby Smith will be on stage with the octet in Akron.
The octet has performed at Wigmore Hall in London, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Cité de la Musique Paris, Vienna Konzerthaus, Tokyo Opera City, NCPA Beijing, Sydney Opera House, Mariinsky Theatre Concert Hall, Victoria Concert Hall Singapore, and Palacio de Bellas Artes Mexico City among many others. Their new album with Decca Classics, Infinity, was released in August 2021.
