An Evening with Author Pete Beatty

Wednesday, October 21 - 7:00 PM

The Hudson Library & Historical Society will host a live virtual streaming event with Pete Beatty, author of Cuyahoga. Kirkus Reviews, in a starred review, calls the novel “an improbable, downright preposterous yarn ably spun and a great entertainment for a time in need of laughter.”

In Cuyahoga, tragedy and farce jumble together in a riotously original voice. Evoking the Greek classics and the Bible alongside nods to Looney Tunes, Charles Portis, and Flannery O’Connor, Cuyahoga is a rollicking revisionist (mid)Western with universal themes of family and fate. Publishers Weekly calls the novel “an American original.”

Pete Beatty is a Cleveland-area native. He has taught writing at Kent State University and the University of Alabama and currently works at the University of Alabama Press. Cuyahoga is his first novel.

Copies of Cuyahoga will be available for purchase courtesy of the Learned Owl Book Shop. Registration for this program is required and a valid email address is required at time of registration. Participants will receive an email invitation to attend the program, hosted on Zoom, a day before the program begins. If you have any questions, please email askus@hudson.lib.oh.us or call (330) 653-6658 x1010.
