The University of Akron Dance Company (UADC) presents the Fall 2018 Dance Concert on November 15-17 at 7:30 p.m. on campus at the Paul A. Daum Theatre in Kolbe Hall, 328 Buchtel Commons.
This evening of dance is a collection of individual works and styles by UA visiting faculty member Nick Carlisle, and guest choreographers Holly Bass, Mary-Elizabeth Fenn and Kaleb Reilly. Nick Carlisle has performed extensively with companies such as the Tom Evert Dance Company, Cleveland Ballet, Dancing Wheels and Morrison Dance. Holly Bass is an interdisciplinary performance and visual artist who currently directs a performance and creative writing program for DC’s Youth Rehabilitation Services. Mary-Elizabeth Fenn’s background includes being the resident choreographer with Neos Dance Theatre and Kaleb Reilly is in his second season with Neos Dance Theatre and has performed nationally and internationally.
Dedicated to his mother, UA choreographer Nick Carlisle’s piece 4 womenfeatures music selections from Lindsay Sterling, Jonathan Szer, the Many Rivers Ensemble and the Rosewynde Flute and Harp Duo. Orientation, choreographed by Holly Bass includes music by Udi Harpaz and Aretha Franklin, with documentary audio from female students. And How Creativity Happens, a contemporary movement study on the process of creatingby Mary-Elizabeth Fenn, is based off the readings of Elizabeth Gilbert in Big Magic and how fear is along for the ride. Additionally, her piece contains excerpts from Alexandre Desplat, Charles Prevost Linton, Jon Brion, Flying Lotus and Melanie. Kaleb Reilly’s piece Exceptions will feature five dancers from the Dance Institute, the pre-professional program at the University of Akron.
Tickets are $12 for general admission, $10 for seniors, alumni, UA faculty and staff, and $6 for students.
