The University of Akron to present Proof
Akron, OH - The University of Akron School of Dance, Theatre, and Arts Administration presents Proof by David Auburn. The production is directed by UA professor Stephen Skiles. Performances will be Feb. 12-14 and 19-21 at 8 p.m., and Feb. 15 at 2 p.m. in Sandefur Theatre in Guzzetta Hall, 139 Buchtel Ave., across from E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall.
Proof is an intriguing mix of mystery and mathematics that touches on the elusiveness of life and love. It involves four central characters dealing with issues related to the nature of genius, mental illness, love, and mistrust as they find themselves working to “prove” who wrote a newly discovered mathematical proof. First produced on Broadway in 2000, Proof starred Mary Louise Parker in the role of Catherine. In 2001, the play won both the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony for Best Play.
Bruce Weber, in the New York Times, called Proof "an exhilarating and assured new play . . . that turns the esoteric world of higher mathematics literally into a back porch drama, one that is as accessible and compelling as a detective story."
Tickets are $12 general admission, $10 for seniors, UA faculty/staff/retirees; and $6 for students. The ticket office opens one hour before each performance. For reservation or more information please call 330.972.7895 or visit our website at www.uakron.edu/dtaa.
