Bill Brandt: Shadows and Substance
Every Tuesday thru Sunday, Through August 24, 2008:
Bill Brandt, England’s greatest twentieth-century photographer, began as a photojournalist and became a poet of light and shadow. Like Shaw's Pygmalion or Altman's Gosford Park, Brandt's first book, The English At Home, dissected the nuances of Britain’s class system. Extended essays on life in the coal-mining country of Northern England, and of London during the Blitz, followed. After the war, Brandt renounced photojournalism and turned to interior space, portraits and moody landscapes. This exhibition presents 67 vintage photographs that span the artist’s career. This exhibition is organized by art2art Circulating Exhibitions.
