Description:

Global Lens Film Series: Sleepwalking Land (Terra Sonambula)

Based on Mia Coutou's acclaimed Portuguese novel, "Muidinga," an orphaned refugee and an elderly storyteller wander the countryside in the midst of Mozambique's devastating civil war in search of the boy’s mother. Their only guide to finding her is a dead man's diary which leads the pair on a magical, and sometimes macabre, journey across war-torn landscapes to find the family he lost. 97 minutes, in Portugese with English subtitles. This program is FREE with first-come, first-serve seating available in the auditorium.

Presented by Kent State University, Kent State Stark University and the Akron Art Museum, the 2009 Global Lens Film Series features the theatrical release of ten films by important, emerging artists hailing from China to Argentina, Macedonia to Mozambique. Now in it's sixth season, the Global Lens Film Series promotes cross-cultural understanding through the medium of cinema, providing a platform for exceptional storytelling that opens a window into the diverse world in which we live.

From October 16 - 25, Kent State University will screen all ten films on its Main Campus; screening dates at the Kent State Stark campus are yet to be determined. Many screenings will be followed by discussions about cultural similarities and differences evoked by films, moderated by experts from the Kent State University faculty.

The 2009 Northeast Ohio Global Lens Film Series is organized and presented by Kent State University Libraries and the Department of History.
