Women's Work Art Exhibit

Location:

County-Wide

Event Type(s): Arts / Theatre / Music
Organization: Summit Artspace
Description:

"Women’s Work," an exhibition of art created by four outstanding, local painters, will be on display at Summit Artspace through February 28.  The featured artists are Barbara Gillette, Linda Hutchinson, Laura Wagner and Linda Tompkin.

Gillette, who lives in Wadsworth, often incorporates visual commentary on the environment and loss of rural green space in her striking landscapes created in soft pastel.  Award-winning, Kent artist Linda Hutchinson is an accomplished portrait artist, whose expressive paintings and drawings reflect her earlier studies in music, language, poetry, dance and psychology.  Cuyahoga Falls artist Laura Wagner, a young, emerging abstract painter, incorporates mixed media and collage into her work.  Linda Tompkin of Copley Township is a realist painter who works primarily in oils and acrylics and often uses vibrant colors, strong value contrasts and intricately designed shapes into still life paintings.

Summit Artspace, a project of the Arts Alliance in cooperation with Summit County government, is located in a historic downtown Akron building at 140 E. Market Street, one block east of the Akron Art Museum.  It is dedicated to displaying local art and presents seven exhibitions per year.  Gallery hours are Thursday-Saturday noon to 5 pm.  Admission and parking are free.
