Introduction to Poetry
This is a foundational course for anyone who wants to become adept with poetry. Maybe you have only read a few poems, or none! Maybe you think all poetry rhymes or employs phrases like "Be Thou mine!" Perhaps you have written a few lines or a few poems. Wherever you are on the spectrum of beginner, this is the place to be. You will get an introduction to, and practice working with, metaphor, simile, assonance, alliteration, image, rhythm and more. Lastly, this is a writing workshop. In addition to in class writing exercises you will be writing poems outside of class and then sharing them (reading aloud) in workshop where we will practice critiquing and discussing our own and each others’ work.
