Learn the basics of writing poetry – and see how it improves your prose! This course blends an introduction to basic elements of poetry and poetry writing with the added twist of exploring how those elements can improve other forms of writing. You will practice in-class poetry exercises - working with metaphor, simile, assonance, alliteration, image and rhythm. Building on a handful of poetry writing exercises, you will learn how to "spruce up" proposals, cover and sales letters, memos, speeches, PowerPoint, Web writing and Blogs. Writing assignments completed as "homework" will be reviewed by your instructor.
