On Tuesday, September 14, 2010, the Akron Affiliate of Sales and Marketing International will host it’s monthly dinner meeting and workshop.  The keynote presentation will focus on:

 

  • Building relationship for long term results
  • How to increase customer loyalty one day at a time
  • Learn easy to use sales formulas that work

 

Daniel (Dan) C. Colantone was named Greater Akron Chamber’s President and Chief Executive Officer on February 1, 2000.  As President and CEO, Dan is responsible for providing the leadership, direction, and administration for all aspects of the Chamber’s activities. 

 

Noteworthy achievements include:

  • Developed the strategy for a regional economic development plan: Advance Greater Akron.
  • Developed a marketing strategy to attract and retain business in the region.
  • Elevated the Chamber’s advocacy efforts by increasing the business community’s role on issues of importance to economic development.
  • Led collaborative efforts to create a plan to attract and retain professionals in the community. 
  • Most recently he worked to develop a new five-year strategic plan: 2009 – 2013, Advance Akron: Our Region. Our Future.  He led collaborative efforts to include business, education and political leadership.

 

In February of this year Dan was celebrated as the Executive of the Year by the Akron affiliate of the Sales & Marketing International (SMEI).

The Greater Akron Chamber is an economic development organization committed to continual improvement of the community, economy, and the quality of life in the greater Akron region.

 

Pre-Dinner Workshop – "Just Say "NO" to taxes, will be presented by Scott Shields, CPA, of Shields Blice & Company.

Workshop Key Takeaways:

Learn strategies on a business, business owners and employee level on how to utilize the tax code to reduce their tax obligation on a Federal, State and City level.

Scott is a 1981 graduate of the University of Akron with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Accounting. Upon graduation, Scott went to work for Price Waterhouse Coopers in the Chicago, Illinois office. His list of clients included Oscar Meyer, US Steel, Marathon Oil, and Marsteller Advertising Agency. While working for Price Waterhouse he earned his CPA certificate in 1983 through the University of Illinois at Urbana.

While gaining excellent experience and knowledge in Chicago, Scott found a need in his hometown of Akron for an accounting firm that would tailor its services to small closely held organizations and family businesses. In September of 1990, Scott formed the accounting organization with little more than an idea, calculator and a pad of paper at his kitchen table. In a few short years the organization has grown to represent clients in 37 different states and 3 countries.  Clients are served from the main office in Akron and a new office opened in Green in 2009.  The Firm is celebrating its 20th anniversary in September of 2010.

Scott is married to Diann who is a teacher in the Copley-Fairlawn school system and reside in Copley, Ohio. Scott & Diann have 3 children; Heather, age 26, who is a special education teacher in Houston,  Pierson, age 25, who is a chef for Hyatt Hotels in Phoenix and Jordan, age 24,  who is a recent graduate from Kent State University.

Scott is very active in the community and has sat on numerous boards and acted as treasurer for area not-for-profit businesses. He recently organized and founded a not for profit organization called Havana Day Dreamers Inc. Scott enlisted the assistance of several prominent area business men to assist in fundraising to promote men's health issues through education, research and prevention.

Scott and Diann are avid scuba divers specializing in technical wreck diving. They have traveled to many destinations throughout the world exploring the planets undersea treasures.
