Ballet Theatre of Ohio (BTO) presents Coppelia at the Akron Civic Theatre May 5 and 6, 2012. Now in their 19th year of delighting area audiences with superior quality ballet performances, BTO is thrilled to bring back this classic comedic ballet to enchant young and young-at-heart alike.

The ballet Coppelia features an eccentric doll maker Dr. Coppelius, a feisty village girl named Swanilda, her fiancé Franz, and a very lifelike doll named Coppelia. Enchanting humor abounds as Swanilda and her four friends sneak into the doll maker’s workshop and create havoc with their mischief. The whole family will be delighted by the magical scene inside Dr. Coppelius' workshop where his mechanical creations come to life! As in every classic fairy tale, true love prevails, but not without a few twists and turns along the way.

Coppelia, like our beloved Nutcracker is captivating with its humor, family-friendly story, and intricate choreography performed by our talented troupe of professional, and pre-professional dancers. With a charming score by Leo Delibes this delightful ballet is the perfect introduction to the world of classical ballet. 

Don't miss the Children's Interactive in the Upper Salon at the top of the Grande Staircase.  Children are invited to visit "Dr. Coppelius' Workshop" where they will see "mechanical dolls" who will pass out special surprises to each child.
